UK automobile manufacturing fell -11.8% to 905,223 automobiles in 2024 amid ‘tough economic conditions’ and structural change as factories switched from ICE to EV manufacturing.
The Society of Motor Producers & Merchants (SMMT), which launched the figures, mentioned the newest unbiased manufacturing outlook expects UK automotive and light-weight van manufacturing to be round 839,000 models in 2025 earlier than rising to 930,000 models in 2027. It peaked in 1972 at just under the 2 million mark.
December rounded off 10 consecutive months of decline for British automotive manufacturing, with output down -27.1% to 45,022 models.
